Concordia Wins Game 1, 18-2 In Their National Championship Debut

The 10th annual 2021 College STUNT National Championship kicked off today in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and five of the nation's best college STUNT teams are set to battle it out in Division l & Division ll with the hopes of being named the 2021 College STUNT National Champions.

Game 1 took place this afternoon between two first-time championship contenders, Dallas Baptist University and Concordia University Irvine.

The game was an exciting start to the championship and the Eagles from Concordia came out victorious with a final score of 18-2.

If you missed out on the action, here is a quick recap of Game 1!

In the first quarter, DBU and Concordia battled it out with Partner Stunts. The Eagles looked confident on the mat and came out strong to sweep Quarter 1 claiming all four points.

The second quarter featured Pyramids and Tosses. In this quarter teams are really focusing on their stunt technique and their grips when catching the pyramids. With the basket tosses, the officials are looking at the height and synchronization of the skills being showcased.

The teams tied once in the second quarter, but Concordia held steady to end the first half with a seven-point lead over DBU.

The second half of the game started with Dallas Baptist University taking possession and the Texas team felt confident with their jumps and tumbling calling routine five to start the quarter.

Both teams executed a strong first routine but Concordia continued to dominate the game and took the opening point of the half.

In Quarter 3, teams are focusing on their tumbling technique, timing, jump flexibility, and the landing of their skills. At the end of the quarter, Concordia held the lead 11-2 over Dallas Baptist University.

The 4th Quarter is Team Routine and is made up of three rounds.  Each round will combine the routines of that level in one continuous routine in the following order: Partner Stunts, Jumps and Tumbling, and Pyramids and Tosses. Each “section” of the routine (Partner Stunts, Jumps & Tumbling, Pyramids & Tosses) is scored individually using the same scoring as the first three quarters.

Both teams put up an impressive fight in Game 1 but in the end, Concordia University Irvine pulled off the win to end the game with a final score of 18-2.
